Hertfordshire 2012 - home of Broxbourne, the Olympic Canoeing and kayaking venue

History

Hertfordshire was originally the area assigned to a fortress constructed at Hertford under the rule of Edward the Elder in 913. The name Hertfordshire appears in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in 1011.

The Domesday Book recorded the county as having nine hundreds. Tring and Danais became one, Dacorum. The other seven were Braughing, Broadwater, Cashio, Edwinstree, Hertford, Hitchin and Odsey. (Source: Wikipedia)

News

The London 2012 Summer Olympic canoe and kayak slalom are due to be held in Hertfordshire. The current venue is at Broxbourne. However, there is a question mark about the venue due to contamination issues and the cleanup cost. The ODA (Olympic Development Agency) is currently considering an alternative venue approximately 6 miles South of Broxbourne. This would place it somewhere around Cheshunt - say Cheshunt Lake.
